Preparational Instructions for Liver Biopsy

In order for the examination to be faster and more comfortable to you, please follow the following instructions:
1. You may take your heart medications (i.e. blood pressure, ect.) with small sips of water only. DO NOT take your diabetic medications if you have diabetes.
2. Do not take any Aspirin, Motrin, Advil or Ibuprofen or Iron pills one week prior to the
exam. (Tylenol can be taken if needed for pain or headache).

3. Nothing to eat or drink 6 hours prior to your procedure.
4. It takes approximately 15 to 30 minutes to perform the liver biopsy. However, after the biopsy, you will remain in the recovery area for 2 to 3 hours for observation.
5. It is imperative that someone accompany and drive you home after your procedure due to sedative and pain medications given to you will cause you to become drowsy. If you are working, please plan to take the day off.
6. If you have any questions regarding these instructions or the procedure, please don’t hesitate to contact our office. Also, if you need to reschedule or cancel your appointment, please let us know 72 hours in advance prior to the date of the examination. 347-9005.
*** Please note, the safety of our patient is very important to us, if you do not have a person to drive you home on the day of your procedure, we reserve the right to cancel your appointment.
*** Please do not leave children unattended during your procedure. We are not responsible for anything that might happen to them.
