Gastrointestinal procedures:

Catheter-free and Wireless Esophageal pH Monitoring (Bravo Capsule) is a pill-size chip that is placed in the esophagus. The pH acid level is recorded over 48-72 hours period. The test is used to diagnose and evaluate gastroesophageal reflux disease.

Capsule Endoscopy is a pill-sized video capsule, which is swallowed and provides examination of the entire small intestine. Indications include detection of small bowel bleeding, cancer, and Crohn’s disease. It may also be used to diagnose Barrett's esophagus and esophageal varices.

Colonoscopy provides a direct optical examination of the entire large bowel (colon) using a lighted flexible video endoscope. Indications for the procedure include colon cancer screening, bleeding, and many others.

Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) is a group of related techniques whereby an endoscope is used to place an ultrasound transducer within the gastrointestinal lumen to perform ultrasonography of the wall, wall-associated lesions, and structures surrounding the gastrointestinal tract. Most EUS is performed under conscious sedation, and the flexible echoendoscope is inserted via the mouth or anus.

Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) provides the examination of the bile duct system and pancreas using the combination of a lighted flexible video endoscope and X-rays. Indications for the procedure include problems in the liver, gallbladder, bile ducts and pancreas.

Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) provides a direct optical examination of the esophagus, stomach and duodenum using a lighted flexible video endoscope. Indications for the procedure may include upper abdominal pain, esophageal reflux, bleeding, and difficulty with swallowing.

Hemorrhoid Band Ligation is used to treat symptomatic hemorrhoids, which may bleed or prolapse.

Infrared Coagulation (IRC) is an in-office method to treat bleeding hemorrhoids.

Liver Biopsy provides a small core of liver tissue using a small biopsy needle. The tissue is examined under microscope to determine the severity of liver disease.

Flexible Sigmoidoscopy is a procedure used to see inside the sigmoid colon and rectum. Flexible sigmoidoscopy can detect inflamed tissue, abnormal growths, and ulcers.
