SJGI Colonoscopy Study 2017

The purpose of a screening colonoscopy is to reduce the incidence and mortality rate for colorectal cancer. Adenoma detection rate (ADR) is one of many indicators that has the strongest association to interval or "missed" colorectal cancer after a screening colonoscopy. The current national benchmark for ADR is 25% (30% in men and 20% in women), and the standard withdrawal time from cecum to anus is 6 minutes or longer. SJGI does an annual study to measure if our physicians' performance is on par with the national benchmark. Our recent colonoscopy study (January 1st- June 30, 2017) shows that our SJGI physicians' performances met and actually surpassed all benchmarks for quality, and the results are below.

Physician Spotlight: Dr. Eugenie Shieh

Dr. Eugienie Shieh

It is our greatest pleasure to welcome Dr. Eugenie Shieh as the newest associate to San Jose Gastroenterology!

Dr. Shieh graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. in Biochemical Sciences from Harvard College. She received her medical degree from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and completed her internal medicine residency and gastroenterology at Johns Hopkins Hospital as a Chief Fellow.

Dr. Shieh provides comprehensive diagnostic and treatment services for digestive and liver diseases. Her clinical interests include colorectal cancer screening, gastrointestinal bleeding, gastroesophageal reflux disease, and liver disease.

Dr. Shieh was born and raised in Huntington Beach, California and is excited to be returning to her roots in California. She enjoys playing tennis, hiking and traveling. She is fluent in English and Mandarin Chinese.
